Overview

Located along the bustling stretch of 2154 Laong Laan Road in Sampaloc, Manila, Bulaluhan Sa Laon Laan offers a comforting refuge for those craving authentic Filipino flavors centered around the beloved bulalo soup. This humble restaurant is a staple for locals and visitors seeking hearty, traditional dishes served in a no-frills environment where taste and warmth take the spotlight.

Their signature Bulalo Soup stands out with a rich, savory broth and tender beef shanks infused with deep, meaty marrow flavor that truly captures the essence of Filipino home-cooking. It's more than just a meal—it’s an experience that invites you to sit back and enjoy the slow-cooked goodness with refillable servings that keep the comfort flowing.

Beyond bulalo, the menu showcases a diverse lineup of grilled and seafood delights, such as the Grilled Pusit Calamari and the uniquely inventive Pizza Bangus. The giant grilled squid, thick and fresh, is recommended for those who appreciate smoky, charred flavors seasoned simply, best enjoyed with a dip of soy sauce, kalamansi, and chili to elevate the taste. Meanwhile, the Pizza Bangus merges traditional Filipino ingredients with a pizza twist, blending creamy cheese and flavorful fish for a memorable bite.

The space carries the charm of a classic Filipino eatery—simple, somewhat rustic, and geared towards communal dining rather than a polished aesthetic. The restaurant undergoes occasional renovations, showing parts that feel newly refreshed beside older sections that echo their history. Though parking can be a challenge on the busy street, attentive staff are readily available to assist customers, lending a sense of ease to an otherwise bustling location.

Bulaluhan Sa Laon Laan is perfect for families, friends, or pairs who enjoy good food without the fuss of fine dining. The atmosphere is lively, with grilling done just outside, filling the air with tempting aromas that announce the authentic flavors within. This dynamic adds both to the character and minor smoke that diners should expect as part of the experience.

Customer remarks consistently commend the staff’s swift service and warm hospitality, reinforcing the restaurant’s commitment to comfort and satisfaction. While the place may not be Instagram-ready or spacious, it excels at delivering genuine Filipino dishes with a focus on quality and tradition. The addition of unique items like the Boneless Bangus and refreshing Melon Juice round out the menu, inviting guests to revisit and explore more.

For anyone exploring Metro Manila’s food scene, particularly those intrigued by Filipino culinary staples such as bulalo and grilled seafood, Bulaluhan Sa Laon Laan offers a deeply satisfying and authentic taste journey. Its straightforward charm and flavorful fare make it a must-visit spot that honors tradition while welcoming hungry patrons with open arms.

My partner and I always wanted to try their food. And when we did eat there they did not disappoint us. The bulalo is flavorful and we loved the pizza bangus with toppings and cheese We ate there on weekdays at lunch time so it's not that crowded. The staffs and servings are fast and we didn't wait too long for the foods. We will definitely eat there again

My Wife and I passed by Bulalohan sa Laon Laan two days ago and we enjoyed the food we ordered. The inihaw na pusit was big and it was cooked perfectly. In fact, we still ate it the following day (leftover) and it was still good. Fillings inside are fresh and the squid was actually full. I prefer dipping it in soy sauce with kalamansi and chilli, it's better than the atchara and oyster sauce served. We also ordered for ensaladang talong, it's a bit small but it tasted good. We also had liempo steak, it tastes good but somehow it was a bit small in serving. Still, we enjoyed it. Plating of all food was good, it's not the typical grill-plating compared to other ihawan, and even my Wife was surprised since it wasn't like that when they first visited Bulalohan. The melon juice was also good. The staff in the dining area were all courteous and they attended to our needs in an instant. The newly renovated CR looked nice. Maybe they are still in the process of renovating the whole resto since some areas look old compared to the other side which was newly painted. Street-parking, so it's up to you to take the risk, but there was a guy who will assist you as to where to park. Ordering is old-school like, the waitress was taking down your orders in a small piece of paper, hand it over to the cashier for the payment and change, then get a number, and wait for your orders. Once sitted, you'll get a refillable bulalo soup. I wasn't able to order bulalo though, but next visit, will definitely order one. The place is a bit small so don't get disappointed if all tables are occupied. It's the typical bulalohan, so don't look for anything like Instagrammable-fine-dining-ambiance. Just enjoy their food and the smoky-grilled-bulalo ambiance.

Bulalo is great. Affordable and delicious. The place is not tidy because a lot of people eat here, especially during dinner. I suggest going early before dinner time because there will be a line for customers waiting. They grill their food outside in front of the restaurant. Thus, the smoke can and will go towards the people eating.

Watch full review on my channel "Lavash Wanderer" on YouTube. You can't find this food anywhere else in the world! A MUST VISIT I so loved this place and the amazing food. The grilled giant calamari is out of this world! You can experience this ONLY in the Phillipines and right at this place. I haven't had much of Bulalo before, but with the bone marrow, it was definitely a tasty one. Thanks to the whole team who made sure that my visit and a whole lot of walk just for this place was not in vain. I'm definitely coming back next time in Manila to try other dishes.
